Introduction
- The Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy was sanctioned to Jamia Millia Islamia in the year 2008.
- This new Centre was attached with the existing Dr. K. R. Narayanan Centre for Dalit and Minorities Studies as 'Programme for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy' thus to strengthen and widen its focus to include the study of all forms of exclusion and discrimination. Drawing upon themes across disciples and with a faculty having diverse expertise, the Centre employs an interdisciplinary approach to study marginalised strata of society
- The Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy became a separate entity on 22M March, 2016
The Centre's primary objective is to generate knowledge on the socio-economic, political, and cultural issues pertaining to marginalized and socially excluded sections of the population. It aims to achieve this by encouraging interdisciplinary research and disseminating views and opinions concerning Dalit and Minority issues.
The core activities of the Centre include
- Functioning as a 'Resource and a Documentation Centre' for students, researchers, visiting scholars, civil society organizations and faculty members;
- Conducting training programmes and perspective building workshops for generating awareness on forms of social exclusion;
- Generating empowerment through creating awareness of legal instruments by conducting workshops on socially beneficial legislation particularly for marginalized groups; and
- Disseminating knowledge generated at the Centre through publications and academic exchanges.
